Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and proudly serves the communities of Mill City, Gates, Detroit, Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns, Santiam Elementary School is an ideal location to teach and collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential. This position is responsible for providing academic skill development to a variety of students in a classroom setting. Teachers at Santiam Elementary regularly participate in building wide professional development, meet as professional learning communities to discuss student learning growth data, and implement intervention programs. Each grade level teacher works with a partner teacher, literacy specialist, math specialist and behavior specialist utilizing a mutli-tiered system of supports to meet students' educational and social-emotional needs. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can stand together with us as we help our students find their path to success.

 

Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are for 170 work days. 

 

Essential duties include:

  1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
  2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  3. Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  4. Plans and supervises purposeful and engaging lessons.
  5. Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  6. Instructs students and assigns relevant independent work.
  7. Grades papers, assignments and assessments promptly and accurately.
  8. Tests and evaluates students’ abilities and progress. Have knowledge of state standards and testing requirements and how to implement these assessments.
  9. Prepares report cards and progress reports.
  10. Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
  11. Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable.
  12. Supervises students in hallways before, after and between classes, in library, and at specials events.
  13. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email.
  14. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  15. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
  16. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  17. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federals laws, rules and regulations.
  18. Attends work regularly and is punctual.
